Carlyle the label is a sustainable swimwear brand based on the Sunshine Coast, Australia that was born out of a lifelong love for fashion, the environment and the Australian coastal lifestyle. Encouraging slow and mindful consumption, our embodiment of sustainable fabrics, classic silhouettes and quality craftsmanship makes a Carlyle swimsuit one to be worn summer after summer.
Our minimal design aesthetic echoes our commitment to creating minimal impact into the beautiful planet we live on. With a quest to make a positive contribution to our environment, most of our fabrics are either 100% recycled or biodegradable.
Recycled Lycra (Certified by Oeko Tex)
Our Nostalgia collection is made entirely from an Italian Lycra that is created from 100% regenerated post-consumer waste, such as discarded clothing, fishing nets, water bottles and carpets. Thanks to its innovative construction and cutting edge technology, there’s absolutely no compromise in quality. In fact, the Lycra that we use has more durability, shape retention and chlorine resistance than your average non-recycled swimwear fabric. So not only are you getting more out of less, while helping to clean up our oceans, but you’re investing in a swimsuit that will last for longer and become a valued member of your summer wardrobe.
Biodegradable Polyamide (Certified by Oeko-Tex)
Our Oasis collection is made predominantly up of a biodegradable fabric called Amni® Soul Eco which enables our garments to quickly decompose when they are discarded and left in landfills. Certified by Oeko-Tex, this fabric reduces the environmental impact and the amount of waste left to future generations. Rest assured though, the fabric is made to last, just not in landfill, because the biodegradation properties only become apparent under landfill conditions where there is no oxygen and bacteria specifically in charge of anaerobic decompositions are found.
There is only one fabric in our entire range that is not either 100% recycled or biodegradable and that is our Olive Bronze colour fabric that was part of our first collection, Oasis. This is because in 2016 when this range was developed, there was no technology yet for shiny swimwear fabric to be recycled or biodegradable, however we are so very excited because our recycled fabric supplier has recently released a 100% recycled shiny Lycra which we can't wait to use in collections to come. Once our Olive Bronze sells out, all of our fabrics will be completely sustainable!
Re-useable Carry Bags
Every swimsuit you order comes with its own Carlyle the Label branded drawstring bag which you can use to cart your swimwear around in.
From 2019 onwards, all of our swimsuits are made locally by a boutique factory in South East Queensland. Only one hour away from our Sunshine Coast studio, Sarah, our founder and designer, works closely with the technicians to create our beautiful swimsuits. Prior to 2019, our swimsuits were handmade by a Brazilian manufacturer who is a passionate advocate of the fashion revolution and donates a portion of her profits to support animal rescue shelters in Brazil. We absolutely loved working with the team there, and we hope we can again, however with our very small orders that we make it is more suitable for us to now be working close by in Australia.
We are no secret keepers here! Have any further questions about our supply chain, want to learn more about our makers or the fabrics that we use? We wish to be open and honest with you as we believe that a customer has a right to know where their money is going. If we don't have an answer to your question, we will do our best to find one! In fact, we are seriously proud of our ethical supply chain and sharing it with you is of our best interest.
Carlyle the Label encourages you to consume mindfully and be a game changer in the industry that is the second largest contribution to global pollution. We hope you will enjoy wearing our pieces and will be able to experience the tranquillity of these designs for many summers to come.
